Welcome to the Building Standards Web Site

The Building Standards Division (BSD) has been re-integrated into the Scottish Government and has become part of a new directorate for the Built Environment which includes Planning and Architectural Policy.

The Building Standards Division (BSD) is responsible for writing the Scottish building regulations.

Technical Handbooks 2009 - The 2009 edition of the Technical Handbooks applies from 4 January 2009. This edition is unchanged from the 2008 edition of the Handbooks, other than amendment to Section 0 (0.5 and 0.17), Section 6 (6.0 and 6.9) and Annex A (defined terms), introduced to assist in implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

We prepare the building regulations, technical guidance on how to meet them, and a guide to the procedures to be followed before building. All our guidance documents, and links to all the legislation, are available on this website (see the menus on the left).
